Interactive Nature Trails

Listen to stories, follow clues, solve puzzles together: Three interactive adventure trails transform Wasserfallen into a playground for families, young people, and school classes. All start at the mountain station of the cable car.

A hike where no one asks how much further it is. That’s exactly what the interactive adventure trails at Wasserfallen are for. Together with Flix, with Mara and Luca, or with naturalist Flora, explorers of all ages immerse themselves in the nature, history, and secrets of the Jura. A task awaits at each station, and along the way, you learn an astonishing amount about the animals, plants, and rocks of the Baselbieter Jura.

There are three trails to choose from: a puzzle trail for families with children aged 6 and up, an outdoor escape game for ages 10 and up, and a research assignment for school classes without a smartphone. All start at the mountain station, all lead across the high plateau, and all can be combined with a stop at a restaurant, the playground, or the forest rope park for a full day out.

The adventure trails are the anniversary offer for 70 years of the Wasserfallenbahn and 20 years of the yellow gondola.

Flix - Guardian of the Wasserfallen

The puzzle trail for families with children aged 6 and up, with 8 stations and a length of approximately 1 kilometer. Duration 1 to 1.5 hours.

a small red-spotted butterfly, needs help: The animals can no longer find their supplies and nests. As nature detectives, your children solve puzzles, color in the treasure map, and finally send a wooden ball down the new ball track.

Not from Here

The Escape Game for explorers aged 10 and up. With 10 stations, a length of approximately 3.5 kilometers, and a duration of 2 to 2.5 hours.

In the gondola, a stranger loses his notebook. Whoever deciphers what’s inside will follow a trail that leads across the Wasserfallen. The game is played with a puzzle booklet and an app.

Wasserfallen Research Assignment

The educational trail for school classes and curious individuals aged 10 and up. With 10 stations, a length of approximately 3.5 kilometers, and a duration of 2 to 2.5 hours.

Naturalist Flora sends teams of two to four people: identify rocks, read animal tracks, assign bird calls, compare meadows. Completely analog, no phone needed.

How it works

  1. Purchase a starter package. At the ticket office of the valley station or the mountain station. Simply state which tour you would like to do. The starter package contains all the documents you need along the way.
  2. Set up the app for the Escape Game. The Locandy app is free for you. Download it at the valley or mountain station and activate the tour – everything then works offline.
  3. Start walking. The large starting board at the mountain station shows you the way to the first station.

Good to Know

  • Sturdy shoes and weatherproof clothing are recommended: The paths lead across meadows and through the forest.
  • There are several restaurants along the way for refreshments.
  • At the resting place above Hintere Wasserfallen, Flix stands oversized – a photo point that hardly anyone passes by.
  • The adventure trails can be easily combined with the forest rope park, the scooter descent, or a circular hike.

Behind the project

The adventure trails were developed together with Locandy from Innsbruck, specializing in storytelling and gamification in the outdoor sector. The project is financed by funds from the New Regional Policy of the federal government and the cantons of Basel-Landschaft and Solothurn, as well as by the Wasserfallen Foundation as part of the nature enhancement project.

FAQ - Interactive Adventure Trails

Three themed trails at Wasserfallen near Reigoldswil in Baselbiet. On each trail, you solve puzzles at several stations, which are embedded in a story. The trails vary in length and are designed for different age groups.

In our case, interactive means an interplay of various elements. Everything must be combined to solve the puzzles.

All three tours start at the mountain station of the Wasserfallen cable car. There is a large starting board with an overview.

 

At both ticket offices: at the valley station in Reigoldswil and at the mountain station on Wasserfallen.

The puzzle trail with Flix takes 1 to 1.5 hours, the Escape Game and the Research Assignment each take 2 to 2.5 hours. This is in addition to the cable car ride.

The puzzle trail with Flix is intended for ages 6 and up, the Escape Game and the Research Assignment for ages 10 and up.

Only for the Escape Game “Not from Here” – the game runs via the Locandy app there. For the puzzle trail with Flix, the audio plays are optional, and the Research Assignment works entirely without a mobile phone.

In German, English, and French. The audio plays are additionally available in Swiss German.

Yes. The boards are firmly installed on the terrain and are weatherproof. In wet weather, the meadow paths can be slippery – good footwear helps.

The puzzle trail with Flix is manageable with a stroller, only station 7 is not stroller-friendly. The two longer tours are not suitable for strollers.
