Trail Running in Wasserfallen

The Region Wasserfallen offers five different trail running routes for sports enthusiasts. The hilly Jura landscape is ideally suited for this sport and offers not only numerous exciting trails but also breathtaking views.

Two very successful Trail Running Days in 2026 – continuing in 2027!

The Reigoldswil-Wasserfallen Cable Car (LRW) held the “Wasserfallen Trail Running Day” for the first time on April 19. Over 20 enthusiastic runners, led by the well-known runner Simonne Hertenstein, Liestal, embarked on the mountain route, which was over 17 km long.

The group run took place in magnificent weather conditions, starting in Reigoldswil and passing through Rifenstein Castle to the Waldweide, the Hinteri Egg, and the Chellenchöpfli before reaching the LRW mountain station and returning to Reigoldswil, covering a total elevation gain of 700 meters. Along the way, experienced trail runner Simone Hertenstein shared plenty of interesting facts at various stops about the still-young, fascinating sport of trail running.

The unique views of the Jura heights and the fantastic nature of the Region Wasserfallen rounded off the running experience.

The second Trail Running Day took place on August 23, 2026, under excellent external conditions. The renowned elite runner from our region, Simone Hertenstein, Liestal, competently and enthusiastically accompanied the numerous trail runners over the demanding mountain route. This route led from the village square in Reigoldswil to Lauwil, up to the Ramstein ruins, on the steep ascent to Ulmethöhe and Vogelberg. The first goal was the summit of Passwang (1205 m), where the magnificent view over the Baselbiet, the Alps, the Vosges, and the Black Forest delighted the participants.

The runners traversed to Chellenchöpfli and Hinteri Egg, the highest point of the Baselbiet (1169 m). The descent to Waldweide and further to the mountain station of the cable car, as well as the final stretch on the “scooter track” to the village square and starting point in Reigoldswil, required high attention and good physical condition on the mostly uneven trail running terrain, covered with roots and stones.

Participation in the 2nd Trail Running Day of the Reigoldswil-Wasserfallen Cable Car Foundation was again free of charge for all trail runners. Due to the enthusiastic response, two more Wasserfallen Trail Running Days are planned for 2027, presumably in April and August. The specific dates will be announced on the Region Wasserfallen website in due course.
